I chose a dragon (who’s name is Kuta) to represent my
jewelry because dragons are very special to me.
Dragons are powerful beings, they are strong,
intelligent, but most of all they don't bend to the will of
others and are willing to be themselves, that in its own
right takes strength. Dragons are misunderstood and
often feared by others because they are different even
though that is what makes them beautiful.
As far back as I can remember, I have always felt that I
was different. Not that there was something wrong with
me, just that I saw things differently and gravitated
toward the unusual and unique. After many
evaluations, tests and struggles in school, I was
diagnosed with a form of Autism called Aspergers
Syndrome when I was about 14. This was an
interesting revelation and I finally felt like it made
some sense. My close connection to animals,
fascination with fossils, stones and crystals and my
love of dragons became legitimate avenues for career
exploration. Not that there weren't struggles, finding
the right medications, teaching people and learning
ways to cope with the daily challenges. Learning about
Aspergers and the people who have it has freed me to
be creative and envision a future where I can be
successful just as I am.
